What is the Regional Center?

​

The San Diego Regional Center (SDRC) is one of 21 regional centers in California that provides support and services to uniquely-abled persons. This is thestarting point to determine eligibility for you or a loved one to receive services.

​

​

 

What Services do they offer? 

​

Services for Children Ages 0-3:

​

Early Intervention Services are based on the needs of the child. Services may include: 

  • Assistive Technology 

  • Audiology

  • Family Training/Counseling

  • Medical Services

  • Nursing Services

  • Nutrition Services

  • Occupational Therapy

  • Physical Therapy

  • Psychological Services

  • Social Work/Service Coordination

  • Speech & Language

  • Transportation

  • Vision Services

Ages 3 to Adult:

​

  • Behavior Intervention Training

  • Dental Services (under special circumstances)

  • Medical Services (under special circumstances)

  • Nutrition Services

  • Nursing Services

  • Psychological Services

  • Residential Services (parental fee may be required)

  • Respite

  • Social Work/Service Coordination

  • Transportation (under special circumstances)

Who qualifies?

​

  • Any San Diego or Imperial County resident believed to have a developmental disability may apply for services. Eligibility is determined by the social, medical, and psychological information gathered during the intake process.

*The Regional Center recommends a CalAble account for individuals receiving public benefits. (Example: Supplemental Security and Medi-Cal). Individuals with a disability that occurred before age 26 are eligible to open a CalAble account.

What is the Department of Rehabilitation?

The California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) works in partnership with consumers and other stakeholders to provide services and advocacy, resulting in employment, independent living, and equality for individuals with disabilities.

​

What Services do they offer? 

​

Student Services Program (Ages 16-21):

​

    • Explore and discuss career interests

    • Learn about the job market

    • Understand what jobs are popular right now and pay the most

    • Review options for different kinds of work

    • Find out what jobs lead to better jobs

    • Discover what jobs could be right for you

    • Understand what you need to do to get the career you want

    • Explore education programs:

      • What programs are available?

      • What programs are connected to local jobs?

      • What classes or credentials do you need for the career you want?

    • Learn about the admissions process at college, technical, and trade schools.

    • Discover resources to succeed in school.

    • Identify options to help pay for school.

    • Get support in completing the FAFSA financial aid application.

Who qualifies?

  • Individuals with disabilities

  • Individuals getting services from Regional Centers or Independent Living Centers

  • Individuals who are blind/visually impaired or deaf/hard of hearing

  • Students (ages 16+) with an IEP, a 504 plan, or a barrier to employment
